Tchiky kick-started his career at fifteen and continues to straddle the airwaves on home ground and elsewhere. The style? A bit o’ baile funk, hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass, samba, house, rock and rather a lot of love for Brazil!
He hails from the Paris corner where Favela started out over a decade ago, but has travelled far and wide spreading heavy sounds gone global.

The Tombo Trio are one of the premier samba jazz bands in the north UK, currently making a big name for themselves due to their high intensity live performances. Influenced by the classic 60’s Brazilian piano trios like Milton Banana, Tamba Trio and Som Tres, but constantly forward-thinking at the same time, they put a thoroughly modern spin on the traditional Brazilian songbook to create their own kind of Brazilian jazz. Tonight they add special guest Ian Bumstead on saxophones.

Maracatudo Mafua
The new group on the hood, Maracatudo Mafua blends musicians from different countries and backgrounds ( Monobloco, Nacao Pernambuco- Womad, Glastonbury) to perform maracatu and ciranda with a new flavour and loads of energy!
Debut gig at Brazilian day/carnival del Pueblo 09, Mafua is under the blessing of one of the most traditional Maracatu groups, Maracatu Nacao Camaleao. Rebeca Vallim on vocals, artistic directors:Wendel Bara and Mariana Pinho. Giving the audience a zip of Olinda’s colours and moves.

According to pernambuco’s tradition, the artists bring the auddience to dance, into a collective musical journey through the instruments and connection to the beat with the plam of the hands and feet! In Paris Coqueiros performs at Cabaret Sauvage, Studi L’Ermitage , Labellevilloise, Glaz Art among many and have just recorded their new album ” O Vendedor de Mandioca”  with special guests: Afoxe Yle de Egba, Charles Theony ( Nacao Pernambuco),Mestre Zeca do Rolet and Albinha do Coco.

DJ tudo is one of Alfredo Bello’s artistic “IDs”: musician, producer and traditional and contemporary culture researcher, he has produced, played and/or recorded with several artists such as: Lee Scratch Perry, Otto, Junio Barreto, Marku Ribas, Adrian Sherwood, Projeto Cru, Ortinho, Dona Zica, Pedra Branca, Apollo 9, etc. For 20 years he has been involved in the cultural field participating in projects, recording sessions and concerts. Alfredo graduated in Music at Universidade de Brasília, and has released in 2008 his first solo work, the album Garrafada, as DJ Tudo. He has just won a public selection promoted by the British Council to perform an ‘artistic residence’ in England in 2009.He created a musical label that releases album gem’s of brazilian off mainstream culture.

Samba-rock is a Brazilian rhythm for those with a global music ear! It appeared and carried the Brazilian underground scene from the poor to the rich, the hill to the asphalt!!!
Think along the lines of Jorge Ben, Originals Samba, Trio Mocotó, Clube do Balanco, Tim Maia, Chico Buarque, Bebeto, Seu Jorge and there are so many more …
Trindade has footed the other side of the world and back with his second dose of samba-rock. Ulisses Bezerra, the son of the most traditional sambista in Brazil (Bezerra da Silva), has crossed continents and been stateside and back!

Lavish is the latest addition to the name game, quickly followed by Seagulls and Jimmy, so don’t be put off, it’s one Favela face with multiple personalities, plus clothing to suit!

It’s more of what we know and love: la camaraderie via pop, samba, bossa nova, electronica, funk, breakbeats, southern rock, swing, batucada and groove inesperado …
A kaleidoscope of the purest tradition and the best of cutting edge Brazilian music reflecting the chaotic but harmonious aspects of the Favela… and chic!
